明治時代の洋画家の黒田清輝（くろだ・せいき、1866～1924年）は落ち着いた印象の『湖畔』が切手に採用されるなどして広く知られていますが、実はヌードの絵もけっこうたくさん描いています。黒田は東京美術学校（現・東京藝術大学）に西洋画科が設置されたときの教授で、ヌードを描くことにはとても強い思い入れがあったそうです。
